J&J paid out $20.9 million related to its diabetes medication Invokana and for its anticoagulant drug Xarelto the payable amount was approximately $28.4 million. A kickback is a form of negotiated bribery which is illegal and not allowed and medical guidelines do not allow such practice by manufacturers to pay doctors for prescribing certain medications for their benefits. Xarelto associated with severe adverse events include internal bleeding, fatal brain and stomach bleeds. There is allegedly no antidote to stop uncontrolled bleeding, which can lead Xarelto to cause someone to bleed to death.
As per a report released by the the Louisiana court, lawsuits against the blockbuster blood-thinning drug manufacturers, Xarelto have now reached 15000 across the country. As of December 15 of 2016 over 14,465 lawsuits are in process regarding Xarelto and according to the report all the Xarelto lawsuits will be consolidated for multidistrict litigation (MDL No. 2592) in Louisiana. The plaintiffs allege that the manufacturers Bayer and Janssen knew or should have known of the risks associated with the drug. Bayer and Janssen Pharmaceuticals failed to adequately warn doctors as well as patients about the adverse effects cause by the life threatening drug Xarelto and the manufacturers were reckless in releasing the drug to market without a corresponding antidote, which can lead Xarelto to cause someone to bleed to death. Despite of giving kickback to the doctors the manufactures have to break their silence and reveal the risk linked with the drug.
